Seit November 1979 startet der Hubschrauber von Sanderbusch aus. Anfangs war er unter den Rufnamen „Christopher Friesland“ bekannt, „Ein Name, der mir besser gefallen hat“, bemerkte Sven Ambrosy in seiner Rede. Olaf Lies hob die hohe Kompetenz und die gute Zusammenarbeit zwischen Hubschrauber, dem Nordwest-Krankenhaus, den Rettungsdiensten und der Leitstelle hervor. Während seiner Rede gingen die Alarmpieper los und wenige Minuten später war der Hubschrauber mit der Kennung D-HMUZ (SN: 7100) vom Typ BK117 B-2 besetzt mit dem Notarzt, dem Rettungsassistenten und den beiden Piloten in der Luft um einem Menschen zu helfen. „Und das 1380 Mal im letzten Jahr“, erklärte Frédéric Bruder. 38.900 Einsätze ist „Christoph 26“ seit Indienststellung geflogen. Er hat einen Einsatzradius vom 70 km. Zu ihm gehören auch die Friesischen Inseln sowie Helgoland. Und das Tag und Nacht. Die Station ist eine von 4 Luftrettungsstationen, die 24 Stunden besetzt ist. Die ADAC Luftrettung gGmbH betreibt in Deutschland 36 Stationen mit 51 Hubschraubern.
