Insgesamt gibt der Text einen Überblick über die Natur und deren Missbrauch der Menschen. Der Autor vergleicht positive Sachen mit negativen Sachen "clean air" und "pousnous gas",Strophe 1. Vers 1.Hiermit will der Autor die Natur und den Menschen gegenüberstellen und zeigen was die Natur alles gutes für uns tut und wie wir Menschen sie zerstören wollen,obwohl diese unser einziger Lebensort ist. Es wird immer davon geredet, dass Menschen sich ändern sollen, aber in Wirklichkeit ändert sich niemand, aber jeder weiß dass etwas dagegen getan werden sollte, gegen die Umweltverschmutzung, die Wasserverschwendung der Menschen und die Müllentsorgung der Menschen. Die Menschen wissen das etwas getan werden muss, um die Erde aufrecht zu erhalten, aber sie geben eine Entschuldigung nach der anderen Strophe 4 Vers 4. Der Autor will dem Leser eine gewisse Einschüchterung vermitteln, indem er den Leser persönlich anspricht "You". Mit dem "I" will McGough die Erde, beziehungsweise Gott Identifizieren, sozusagen als ob Gott bzw die Natur mit dem Leser spricht und ihm ein schlechtes Gewissen machen will, um ihn die Situation näher zu bringen. Der Autor hat diese Art der Kommunikation gewählt,um den Lesern persönlich anzusprechen und um auf ihre Fehler hinzuweisen. Der Leser fragt sich so, was er falsch gemacht haben könnte und wie man diese Fehler beheben könnte. Es bleibt offen, ob der Leser sich ändern will nachdem er dieses Gedicht gelesen hat oder ob er sich überhaupt nicht angesprochen fühlt.
