1.) The children of immigrants who entered the United States illegally have much greater difficulties in life, especially with higher education. Thus, only a few undocumented students go to college in the United States. This is because they have no documents even though they have spent their entire lives in the United States. Due to their legal situation, most students cannot attend college because they do not have the financial resources and the government does not help them with financial aid. In fact, they cannot qualify for federal loans or receive federal benefits. In addition, undocumented students cannot legally work to earn college money.
2.) Dear Sir/ Madam,
David A. Perez published in 2013 the text “A Dream Referred” where he explains the situation of undocumented students and his opinion about the DREAM Act.
The DREAM Act states that everyone can achieve anything with hard work and strong will. The dream of freedom, equality and the pursuit of happiness are the most important characteristics. However, the DREAM Act also explains that undocumented students receive state aid. The student must qualify for this. There are two criteria that must be met: be a graduate of a Washington high school and they must be on a pathway to citizenship. In the first place it is important to know that these restrictions for undocumented students is complety against the idea of the American Dream. The author supported that in l. 37-38 too:” Perversely, in the very country where children are taught that hard work and determination can make any dream come true, these students are punished for being ambitious and diligent.” because no matter how hard these students try- most of them cannot afford college if they are not even allowed to work. So if it is their dream to go to college they cannot reach it. Another argument that confirms this statement is that the children should not take the responsibility for the desicion of the parents to enter the country illegaly (l. 39-40).
On the other hand, the state should not take responsibility either. This is for the following reason: The parents deliberately chose the consequences with illegal immigration. But the parents may also have just hoped for better living conditions with illegal immigration to the United States.
To sum up, the children should not suffer from the decision of their parents. Moreover, the difficulties children of immigrants have mean that they never have the same opportunities as non-migrant children so the DREAM Act is important to create at least some equality in the society.
Sincerely,
...
