Is it possible to keep a slow loris as as pet? How to get a slow loris as a pet? All these are common questions regarding the animal. There are many people, who get attracted by the animal's cute looks. But, in fact, slow lorises are not at all suitable for raising as pets. There are various factors that make them inappropriate as pets. This includes their horrible bites. They have strong, long canines that are used for biting, when they get threatened. These bites can also be toxic, as these animals have glands (inside the elbows) that release toxins that are taken into the mouth, while biting. They apply these toxins on the body of their young ones, so as to protect them from predators. This is one of the important factors that do not favor keeping a slow loris as a pet.

Apart from that, slow lorises are protected by law, in some of their native countries, like, Cambodia and Indonesia. They are also categorized as endangered species and the UN Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) has banned this animal from international trafficking. In short, it is not legal to keep this animal as a pet. You may also check the local laws, regarding this aspect. It is always better to leave these animals lead a peaceful life in their natural habitat. Taking this animal outside this habitat, will be sheer injustice to them and will only contribute to their dwindling population.

However, illegal trade of slow lorises is still going on. But, it is not wise to keep a slow loris as pet, due to the above said reasons. If you get any information about such illegal practices, please inform the authorities.
