In 1956 the Supreme Court decided to that the protesters were right and so the segregation on city buses was illegal. The King speeches encouraged people to segregation the protest peacefully all over the USA. In 1963 King led children`s march threw the streets of Birmingham, Alabama, where the police attacked them with dogs and 1000children were sent to prison. Finally white leaders abolished segregation in Birmingham. In 1963 250,000 people supported the Kings fight for equality of the blacks in Washington, D.C. His speech “I Have a dream!” had major influence on the nation . President Kennedy sent the Civil Rights bill to Congress. In 1964 the Civil Rights bill became a law. Now the segregation was illegalled in every state of the USA. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In the sommer of 1967 there were riots in the cities across the USA. But King insisted that non violence was a stronger weapon. On April 4, 1968 King was standing on a balcony of a motel room in Memphis, Tennessee when James Earl Ray , who was a gunman, fired his rifle at him. King fell to the ground and died at the age of 39 years in a hospital.
