New York New York is the largest city in the USA. It’s on the East Atlantic coast, half way between Washington DS and Boston. Over 8.2 million people live there. New York comprises five districts: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. New York is also called „The Big Apple“. The major is Michael Bloomberg. In New York are many sights. For example: The Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. The Statue of Liberty isn’t only a landmark of the New York City, it’s much more. It’s a kind of symbol for America. The statue was designed by a famous French sculptor who was called Bartoldi. The Empire State Building was one of the first skyscraper in New York. The building is 381 meters high. It built in the year 1931. Today, 4.3 million people visit the Empire State Building every year. Other attractions are the Brooklyn Bridge, the Rockfeller centre in Manhattan and the Wall street. In New York are 200 museums, 150 theatres and more than 18 000 restaurants. New York is home to the headquarters of National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and Major League Soccer. The history of New York City: In 1626 New York was named New Amsterdam and 1664 New Amsterdam were renamed New York after King Charles 2 of England granted the lands to his brother. It has been the country’s largest city since 1790.
